What’s in a name…

People often ask me, “Where did the name “Rue Franklin” come from?!”

I loved my time living in France, and at the time I was in the process of moving to America. One day I was standing on a street just off the Champs- Élysées in Paris, admiring the beautiful art deco architecture it boasted alongside traditional Parisian chic streets. The street was called "Rue Benjamin Franklin" - "Rue" being the french word for "Street", was juxtaposed against a very American "Benjamin Franklin", a former US President after which the street was named.

I thought this was a great reflection of two countries (and continents) coming together, and reflected my own move across the Atlantic too - bridging Europe and America. I shortened it to “Rue Franklin” - and that has been the studio name ever since.

As a result, a lot of people think my name is “Rue”…. it's not, it's Mary!
