Rue Franklin Studio - How it's made: Flow State - Commission March 2023 // Abstract Art Timelapse

Purple, blue and gold swells in the background culminating in a bold textured flowing wave across two canvases. An acrylic based artwork with mixed media plastering, fabrics, spray paint, and gold leaf. Paint application through palette knives and natural brushwork. Hand-made plaster and muslin cloth drapes the canvas to bring a 3D effect to the work.

Inspired by the collector's lived experiences and views on the interconnectivity of our worlds, this commission is a narrative on life, on being, living, existing and moving through the motions of the world around us. Two canvases broken and apart, yet connected. The highs and lows of the flow emit a soft, glowing aura. Swells of color indicate that maybe a new flow is starting to build, as our eye is tasked with competing with the foreground and background as one. You choose what you put into focus - each time finding a new movement in the piece that you have never seen before.

In contrast to the flow are stark white lines - straight and golden-flecked - attempting to power through our flowing aura - but they are stopped dead suddenly. The straight and narrow is not what succeeds in this piece - we are consumed by the flow, so prominent we could almost ...reach out and... touch it.. but by then it will have moved on.

Do we cherish our everyday moments enough? Do we strive to be in the present? Or are we always searching for the straight and golden way? This piece is intended to provoke a colorful debate on the meaning of our world, the interconnectedness of the enormity of life, and the pure joy of living in the flow of the moment.
