Rue Franklin Studio // Like and Comment, 2022 // Acrylic on canvas
4ft x 3ft Canvas
Bright and bold yellows, reds and pink come together in an explosion of colour and texture on an otherwise calm blue canvas. Social media motifs explode out of one central heart that travels up from a golden textured base to a neon pink cloud and deep red corner.
An acrylic based artwork with spray paint. Glass beads, coarse pumice, moulding paste, and gel mediums add texture to the canvas. Paint application through palette knives and natural brushwork. Hand-made stencils created bespoke for this commission provides street-art finishing.
Inspired by the collector's current art collection, this commission is a narrative on how the real-world is represented online. We only have one heart to share with the world. The bright yellows and gold embedded in coarse pumice stone represent our grounded selves. We can share our one golden love with the world, but will it grow, multiply and become something bigger than us, or will it be dragged into a darker space? By giving our passions and love to the internet are we sharing it or diluting it? Our one golden heart rises up and explodes into likes and comments but we only see one, much smaller heart left in the upper left corner. What do we have left when we share ourselves with the world?
This piece is intended to provoke a colourful debate on social media, what we give and what we receive in return.
